What do you want to conquer? Eating healthier? Exercising more? Overcoming an addiction? Finishing your education? Being a better parent? Being a better communicator? Spending more time with your family? Laughing more than you complain? Having healthy relationships? Drinking more water? Raising your self-esteem? What do you want your legacy to be? You might relate to one, some, or all of these. You might even have more you'd add to the list. The reason we started one, is we are launching a journey at Concord Pharmacy that we'd love you to join us on. We all have areas of life we want to conquer. We want to get better at some things, stop doing others, and make a positive impact on the world around us. So if you are game, make sure you stay connected to us on facebook and here on our blog. We aren't totally sure how this will all play out...but the goal is to be the encouragement we all need. We'll be here for you, and all of us for one another. As we all make progress, here is how we can all think about it. "I'm CONCORDing it!"... (with my friends @ Concord Pharmacy.) A reminder that we are here for you, as you make your progress. And also a reminder that it is way more fun to do something like this on a team. Together. In relationship. Being part of a community. And for the moments when you've overcome something? As you continue on your journey of developing a healthy habit this holiday season, you may run into a moment when it gets really hard. A temptation to cheat, cave or quit seems so overwhelming that you won't be able to hold it off. This quote by Robert Ingersoll tells us what we need to hear at that point. When we are completely focused on ourselves we can end up in a very isolated place. However…if we can be intentional about serving, helping and coming alongside someone else in their time of need it changes everything. What felt so hard all of a sudden seems manageable. What seemed too difficult to stick with now doesn't feel that way at all. Journeys worth taking are never short or easy…and so much of what makes them rewarding and beautiful to experience once you get to your destination is the journey that got you there. So as you go back at it tomorrow…be encouraged. Every step you take matters. If you happen to take a couple backward…go take some steps forward to helping someone else…and it will take you forward on your journey as well.
To build off of our post yesterday, this quote from Nathaniel Emmons is great perspective. Instead of only focusing on what you are trying to stop doing, give yourself something to start doing. When a habit serves to protect you, and positions you to be healthy, that's a win. When a habit hurts you, and tears you down, it's time to simply walk away from it. And here is where you create momentum…
by leveraging the time you would have given to the bad habit, and double down on developing the good one. Keep this in mind tonight... And don't forget.
You aren't alone. We've all been there. You matter. We are honored to know you. Have a GREAT start to your weekend. Be encouraged. You've got this! The fear of __________________.
While what you put in that blank may be different than anyone else, we all have that blank to fill. Not a day goes by that we aren't faced with overcoming some fear. Some days the fears are smaller, some days they seem bigger than life. But knowing that we have the choice to confront our fears head on is an amazing promise of progress. We don't get it right every time. We fall down. We scrape our knees, and maybe our emotions too. It's in the getting back up to look fear in the eye and calmly saying "no thank you" that tells the real story. The story of those who've been there, done that. Felt pain, felt joy. Felt setbacks, and turned around to launch a comeback. Experienced lows and bounced back to enjoy the highs of pushing past the hard stuff. So while we may all fill in the blank with a different word, remember this promise. Filling it in and confronting it gets a whole lot easier when we realize we are in the great company of friends and family who are all doing the same thing. Moving forward. Gaining momentum. Starting a movement of kicking fear aside in the place of joy. The secret of life? No one can sum that up in one sentence…but this will help. Conquering fear is about relationships. Going through the hard with those who are doing the same. And when we all come out on the other side? There's no better feeling. Stop giving power to the fear, and realize it's overcome through saddling up next to great friends and family as we all do this thing called life… together. In relationship. That's a great little secret. So good, in fact, that it shouldn't be a secret anymore. Join us in sharing it with everyone you know. You betcha it's made with REAL SUGAR. But the kick is, HOW MUCH?
We hate to be the bearer of incredibly bad news, BUT... That can of soda (or pop depending on where you hail from) has… wait for it… 10 SUGAR PACKETS IN IT! Turns out that's not the best thing to "#throwback" after all. Water, anyone? This image allows you to almost feel the storm. The blur of their clothing tells us of their hurried movement. The umbrella likely will succumb to the elements, but shows us an attempt to take cover amidst the pending pelting of a storm.
There are no smiles, only pensive concentration on the next step. Then another…and another…and another…simply trying to get to a place of respite, and cover. The weather tonight in Fredonia and Dunkirk has offered much of the same. One moment, a cool breeze that was welcomed after a long, hot, humid day. And then in an instant…many looked like this photo. So why the post on weather tonight? In a word? Seasons. Sure. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. But what about the seasons within a season? The ones that tend to sneak up on us unexpected? Or even if we know they are predicted to come, are hard to navigate nonetheless? Here is some encouragement for you tonight. In four words... This Too Shall Pass. Whatever you may be going through tonight…this too shall pass. Whatever is weighing on your heart…this too shall pass. When there is a bump in the road…this too shall pass. And if life is clear sailing for you right now? While the "weather of life" may be sunny and 80 degrees for many, there are others preparing for, going through, and trying to… weather the storm. Maybe a simple phone call to encourage a friend is in order today. To let them know you are there for them. And… this too shall pass. |
