The definition of community is:
"A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common." That "particular characteristic" is summed up beautifully by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the quote below. In a word? Honor. A simple reminder, tonight. We need to move in strong and intentional ways to serve others… most especially when nothing stands to benefit us in return. To honor. To serve. To care for. THAT…is community. We loved this poster SO much when we saw it,
we had to share it with you tonight! After you read it…read it again. And then one more time. So much wisdom in just a few short phrases. We tried to pick a favorite phrase, and kept saying…"all of them!" If you twisted our arm we'd probably say… "laughter is the best dinner music." We hope your dinner had the volume turned up to 10 tonight! OUT ON A LIMB FOR SOMEONE? We love it when we hear stories about
how someone found a person in need and stepped in to help. There is an old saying that goes something like this.. "Show me your checkbook and your calendar and I will show you what matters most to you". Where do you spend your time and money? What can you do with your time and money today to honor someone in need? How far out on that limb are you willing to go to make a difference in someone's life? All good questions for us to ponder today. Keep your "limbdar" on high alert today. (Limb + Radar) You never know… Your limb traveling may be the best part of someone else's day. And that is cool. Very cool. If it were only this easy!
This image allows you to almost feel the storm. The blur of their clothing tells us of their hurried movement. The umbrella likely will succumb to the elements, but shows us an attempt to take cover amidst the pending pelting of a storm.
There are no smiles, only pensive concentration on the next step. Then another…and another…and another…simply trying to get to a place of respite, and cover. The weather tonight in Fredonia and Dunkirk has offered much of the same. One moment, a cool breeze that was welcomed after a long, hot, humid day. And then in an instant…many looked like this photo. So why the post on weather tonight? In a word? Seasons. Sure. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. But what about the seasons within a season? The ones that tend to sneak up on us unexpected? Or even if we know they are predicted to come, are hard to navigate nonetheless? Here is some encouragement for you tonight. In four words... This Too Shall Pass. Whatever you may be going through tonight…this too shall pass. Whatever is weighing on your heart…this too shall pass. When there is a bump in the road…this too shall pass. And if life is clear sailing for you right now? While the "weather of life" may be sunny and 80 degrees for many, there are others preparing for, going through, and trying to… weather the storm. Maybe a simple phone call to encourage a friend is in order today. To let them know you are there for them. And… this too shall pass. Last Thursday's post for #TBT was so popular, we thought we'd build on it. If you missed it, all you have to do is scroll down to read it… How about a simple one?
